The weekend of April 24th-26th, 2009, will be a weekend of change for starving children in Ivory Park, South Africa. "We Are The Change 2009," will involve a prayer walk around the city of Fairfax, worship service and benefit concert for starving children in Ivory Park, South Africa.
The prayer walk will begin on Friday the 24th and last 25 hours and 40 minutes, in honor of our partner organization "25:40" who will be joining us in this effort. Members of FPC's G.R.A.C.E. youth group will be walking quietly and prayerfully around the city of Fairfax in shifts throughout the day and night, so that there will constantly be walking and praying throughout the night. Each walker will be sponsored by friends, family, and neighbors. The public is invited to join us on Saturday, April 25, from 8:00am-6:40pm. You may download the letter, sponsorship form, and registration below. Just bring your registration and funds raised to Fairfax Presbyterian church at 8:00am on Saturday morning where you will receive your map route. You may also view the route by clicking on the link below. You may also download the fliers to hand out to your family and friends, or any business that could display the flier in their window.
The Sunday after our prayer walk will be Youth Sunday. The FPC youth group will lead the congregation in the worship service at 8:45 and 11:15am. After the 11:15am service, a benefit concert will take place on the church lawn. Local bands will be performing and food will be provided by Papa Johns, Moes and Metro Silver Diner.
Our goal is to collectively raise $10,000 to help re-build a kitchen in an existing preschool in Ivory Park, South Africa. There are five preschools currently in operation in Ivory Park and these schools provide the only food that many of the children receive. A functioning kitchen is urgently needed. If we do not fund this, the entire preschool will close and eighty to one hundred children will be displaced.
